GIEVES & HAWKES “The Invention of The British Gentleman” Exhibition

Gieves & Hawkes “The Invention of The British Gentleman” exhibition at Harbour City brings the Gieves Room out of the iconic Savile Row flagship, offering visitors exclusive access into the brand’s vast and unpublished archives, including Michael Jackson’s tailcoat and Princess Diana’s mess jacket.
For more than two centuries, Savile Row has been the world’s most prestigious source of bespoke tailoring and since 1912, the iconic address in the heart of Mayfair, London has been home to the legendary tailors Gieves & Hawkes: gentlemen’s outfitters par excellence.
Purveyors of the finest in men’s clothing, the company began by outfitting Britain’s most illustrious military officers. Ten generations of British royalty have since passed through the expert hands of the house’s master tailors, from King George III in 1803 to Princes William and Harry.
With the evolution of masculine fashion following the First World War, Gieves & Hawkes expanded their repertoire to include civilian clothing. Embracing hundreds of years of expertise in creating handmade garments, the brand has in its DNA the exceptional technical finesse for apparel that moved between battlefield and ballroom. While the elegant structural refinements of codified uniform styles are still available, the tailor’s virtuosity is now more commonly sublimated into the easy elegance of suits and jackets seen in boardrooms and skyboxes.
The exhibition retraces the rich brand history of stylish garments and dapper accessories from the eighteenth century to today’s ready-to-wear collections. Visitors can witness firsthand the profound affiliation between the brand and the British Royal Family. Alongside it’s precious archives, there shall also be a video which shall reveal more about the DNA of this proud historical brand, showcasing how in the past, the present and the future Gieves & Hawkes has, and shall continue to be every gentleman’s answer to any of his sartorial questions.
