Gieves & Hawkes hosts the G&H 1771/2014 Exhibition and Autumn/Winter 2014 collection showcase at C5 Gallery in Sanlitun, Beijing; On this occasion the Royal warranted men’s tailoring brand demonstrates its British heritage built over two centuries. This is also Gieves & Hawkes brand ambassador Alex Hua Tian’s first trip back to China after taking part in the 2008 Olympics.
The C5 Gallery was transformed into the world of Gieves & Hawkes, exhibiting the brand’s iconic aesthetics and 240 years of heritage. Showcasing its extensive antique military uniform collection, the exhibition vividly illustrates Gieves & Hawkes history and ties with the British Royal Family.
Archive Consultant Mr Peter Tilley was present to share his invaluable insight with the guests. Gieves & Hawkes video presents the AW 2014 collection designed by Creative Director Jason Basmajian, as shown at London Collections: Men.
Founded in 1771, Gieves & Hawkes boasts more than 240 years of history. The company was originally a joint venture of two renowned sartorial businesses: Gieves, official uniform and apparel supplier of the Royal Navy and Hawkes, milliner of the British Army. The two joined forces in 1974 to form Gieves & Hawkes, now known for its luxurious tailoring and dressing members of the British Royal Family. As of today, the brand proudly holds three Royal Warrants respectively appointed to HM the Queen, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and HRH the Prince of Wales.

Alex Hua Tian, Gieves & Hawkes Brand Ambassador
The 24 years old Hua Tian is the first Olympic equestrian athlete to represent the People’s Republic of China, also the youngest competing athlete in the history of Olympic equestrian games. On his appointment as Gieves & Hawkes brand ambassador, Alex said, “My father explained to me that the heritage and craftsmanship of Gieves & Hawkes make the brand stand out from the others. Dressing in Gieves & Hawkes is following the footsteps of the great as well as beholding a subtle elegance that is quintessentially British.”

Jason Basmajian has over two decades experience as a creative manager of major international clothing brands. He was Director of Menswear at Calvin Klein, and held the same post at Donna Karan in New York, after which he became Creative Director of ST Dupont in Paris. Subsequently he joined Brioni in 2007 as Artistic Director. Whilst at Brioni he spearheaded the company’s modernisation and consolidation as one of the leading global luxury brands. Jason joined Gieves & Hawkes on Monday 21stJanuary 2013 and assumed full responsibility for all areas of product design and development, taking the brand to another level globally as well as locally.
