This season’s Gieves & Hawkes collection is timelessly elegant, maintaining the house’s tradition of Great British tailoring. Even so, a reworked vision of an Englishman abroad with contemporary silhouettes, subtle textures and refined detailing present throughout.
A sophisticated palette of indigo, slate, terracotta and stone anchors the collection and moves classic tailoring into sophisticated territory. Construction and silhouette are always important to Gieves & Hawkes, and this season’s tailoring utilises the lightest-weight construction yet, with soft chest canvases, minimal shoulder pads and half-linings in jackets to keep the wearer cool. The house’s blocks have also been tweaked to improve their fit, and some jackets have been cut with a slightly looser waist for comfort. Trousers are either flat fronted or full-cut with pleats, and a new wide-leg trouser model is available for Made-To-Measure customers too.
Casualwear echoes the theme with design in details – like the ‘Crown Ships 1771’ symbol which the Royal Navy gave to Mr. Robert Gieve; naval elements like telescope and compass are underlying in the collection; Bespoke paper patterns are rearranged to form a special motif. The result is a collection where the past is not treated with dusty reverence, but incorporated into our present to give our wardrobe genuine British character.
